LIBRARY POLICIES

General Information

Library Media Program Objectives:

  • To provide all students with a variety of information sources

  • To help students become effective information seekers

  • To encourage all students to become lifelong learners and readers

  • To nurture a love of reading in all students

Hours and Policies:

  • 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. when school is in session (Library closes at dismissal on half days.)

  • Open to students, staff and community for research and recreational reading

  • Collection of 17,000+ books, 2 newspapers and 30 magazines

  • Computer users must be registered on the S.C.S. network

  • Students and their parents must sign an Acceptable Use Policy, which outlines permitted usage of our computer network

  • Periodical and encyclopedia databases are available to Stamford Central School through a New York State Library initiative, NOVEL (New York Online Virtual Electronic Library). Many of these sites are password protected.

1000 Books Program

  • Reading program for young readers (Pre-K - 4rth grade), funded by the Greater Broome Community Foundation (Joyce and David Barber Donor Advised Fund)

  • Students must be registered to participate

  • Provides 1000 books in 100 different book bags, selected especially for young readers and pre-readers

  • Supplements the library collection
